Industrial / loft at the same time elegant and very minimalistic floor lamp was created in the 1960s in the Capital Metal Works No. 2 in Warsaw.
Mr. Apolinary Gałecki was probably involved in its design. He had his fingers as a person supervising the work of the company team. Was that his idea? Such a statement seems impossible to prove.
The lamp has undergone a complete painting and electric renovation. As it was black, it was yellow with the indication that the varnish is new. The chrome parts have been cleaned and polished, the electrical connection has been checked, the cable has been replaced, but the electric switch is original.
Actually, the whole structure is original. Jeno the power cable changed, because the old one was downgraded. Others say he fired or fucked up.
This model rarely comes to light. Variations on this theme do happen, but this one is unique, unique.
The chrome arm is movable thanks to the system of three clamps (photo), hence the arm can be raised and “pushed”, i.e. lowered at will.
Many lamps made in the 1960s and 1970s in the Capital Metal Works No. 2 in Warsaw were promoted and rather unjustly attributed to Mr. Apolinary Gałecki. Wrong, because the concept of a creator / designer in the sense understood at the moment did not exist in these plants. The projects were team work, supervised of course by individual managers, but nothing more.
It seems that this was the contribution of Mr. Gałecki to the whole project, i.e. to supervising the work of the team. This was mentioned in one of the interviews by the son of Mr. Apolinary, clearly explaining the work system that was in force at Stołeczne Zakłady Metalowe No. 2 in Warsaw.
It is common to say that the lamps were designed by Mr. A.P., and in many cases they were projects absorbed from Western Europe, commissioned by foreign clients and basically did not differ from their foreign prototypes. Or maybe they were just plain plagiarism, because as we know then the concept of “Copyright” in Poland did not oblige to anything.
This lamp is all the more valuable, because it seems to be a project based on our local, let’s say even directly, Warsaw ideas.
What makes us very happy and we hope also the future owner of this unique and very rare lamp.
